Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) Leader Senthil Thondaman says the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) must ensure Tamil representation in the new Parliament of Sri Lanka from the Colombo District.
Speaking to Islandnews, the former Governor pointed out that despite Tamil representatives being elected in all upcountry plantation districts, the Colombo and Kandy Districts failed to elect Tamil representatives.
Highlighting that the Tamils living in the Colombo District and Western Province require a Tamil representative in Parliament, Senthil Thondaman said Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) Leader Mano Ganesan fits the role.
Senthil Thondaman revealed that Mano Ganesan, who contested under the SJB, has obtained more Tamil votes than any other candidate who contested in the Colombo District.
As such, he said the SJB must consider providing a National List to a Tamil representative in the new Parliament, with Mano Ganesan the suitable option.
The former Governor added that although the TPA and CWC may have different political opinions they are of the same policy on increased representation of Tamil MPs in Parliament. (Islandnews)
