Deep Depression : Weather forecast for the next 36 hours

The Met Department says the influence of the Deep Depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal on Sri Lanka’s weather will gradually reduce after tomorrow (29 Nov).

According to the department’s latest update, the deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal was located 110 km northeast of Trincomalee today and is likely to move slowly north-northwestwards closer to the east coast of Sri Lanka with a possibility to intensify further.

As such, the weather forecast for the next 36 hours predicts showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern and North-central provinces and the Trincomalee district.

Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely in some places in the Northern province. Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and Galle district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere on the island in the evening or night.

Strong winds of about 60 kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North-central, North-western, Central and Eastern provinces.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Islandnews)
