Defence forces structure to be reviewed: Thuyacontha


The Ministry of Defence will undertake a comprehensive review of the armed forces to ensure their primary role of defending the nation remains their core focus, Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) said.

Addressing the Navy Passing Out Parade at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) in Trincomalee, Thuyacontha outlined plans to enhance operational efficiency of the forces by implementing targeted recruitments

“We ensure that our defence forces will be employed exclusively for their primary role of military assignments in defending our country,” Thuyacontha said. “We expect to undertake a review of the armed force structure to ensure optimal utilization of resources and to enhance operational efficiency, he added.

The event marked the commissioning of 16 cadets from the 38th and 39th General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Intakes and 13 Service Entry candidates from the 1/2023 Service Entry Intake. The Defence Secretary presented awards to officers who demonstrated exceptional performance during their training. (Islandnews)
