Police have released more details of the triple murder at a lodge in Mahabodhiwatta, Hiniduma, on Thursday night (30).
According to Police two unidentified gunmen arrived on a motorcycle around 11:15 p.m. and opened fire before fleeing. One of the suspects used a T-56 assault rifle in the attack.
At the time of the shooting, five individuals were inside the lodge consuming alcohol. Three of them were killed at the scene, while the other two managed to escape.
The deceased have been identified as, Indunil Saman Kumara, the 55 year-old owner of the lodge, M. Neville, a resident of Ambalangoda and Chathuranga Kumara, 34, a resident of Hiniduma
Police said there is no known underworld connection to the victims, adding that the motive remains unclear.
Police said efforts are underway to track down the gunmen. (Islandnews)
