Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Ratnayake told Parliament yesterday that the Finance Ministry will increase the interest rates given to senior citizens’ Fixed Deposits (FDs) through the upcoming Budget. Making a special statement yesterday he said that the Finance Ministry has paid its attention in this regard.
He said this in response to a question raised by the Chief Opposition Whip, Gayantha Karunathilaka, regarding the current reduction in the interest rate on senior citizens’ fixed deposits.
Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunathilaka said that the National People’s Power’s policy statement, “A Rich Country, a Beautiful Life”, has clearly stated that the interest rate on senior citizen fixed deposits will be increased by five percent than the normal interest rate.
