The current government has implemented new guidelines to cap the number of support staff for ministers and deputy ministers. Under the policy, ministers can have a maximum of 15 support staff, while deputy ministers are limited to 12.
This measure aims to enhance the efficiency and coordination of ministerial functions while ensuring effective collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, issued a written directive to all ministry secretaries, emphasizing strict adherence to these staffing limits.
The new guidelines also include detailed instructions on appointing ministry advisors and support staff. Additionally, they outline protocols for the allocation of official vehicles, fuel entitlements, and telephone allowances for ministers and deputy ministers.
These comprehensive measures align with the government’s policy, “A Rich Country, a Beautiful Life,” and are intended to promote administrative efficiency, equality, and social justice.
