Government Media Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayathissa clarified the conflicting reports given by authorities on the identity of the Hulftsdorp gunman.
“This person has had several aliases. His lawyer’s identity card bears the name Kodikarage Kasun Prabath Nissanka. He has also appeared as Mohammed Asman Sherifdeen, while his national identity card bears the name Samindu Dilshan Piyumanga Kandanaarachchi,” the Minister explained.
He said that investigations confirmed the name on his identity card, the Minister said. “Initial reports reveal these names, and it could be possible that he would have used other names too,” Jayathissa said.
The suspect was arrested yesterday in connection to the shooting inside the Hulftsdorp Court Complex, following which the Police media spokesperson and the Public Security Minister revealed the aliases used by the suspect.
At the time of the arrest on Tuesday evening, Police Spokesman Buddhika Manatunga said that the 34-year-old suspect was named Asman Sherifdeen.
Minister of Public Security earlier today identified the suspect as Samindu Dilshan Piyumanga Kandanaarachchi. (Islandnews)
