Govt to seek scholars participation in policy decision-making – Minister Hadunnetti


Participation of scholars and intellectuals is mandatory in policy decision-making in a country and under the current government, their contribution will be sought more actively in policy formulation in the future, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti told the 7th Annual International Conference of the Sri Lanka Economic Association(SLEA).

He said although university students conduct a large amount of research every year, it is not being disseminated to society. However, in the future, a systematic program should be prepared to contribute to the economy from the research results presented through universities and such conferences.

The 7th Annual International Conference of the Sri Lanka Economic Association was held recently (6th and 7th) at the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) Auditorium, Vidya Mawatha, Colombo 7. SLEA 7th International Conference concluded with 35 research papers on industrial transformation.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Transformations in the Industrial Sector for Sri Lanka’s Economic Revival” and 35 research papers presented by economists from Sri Lanka and abroad that will help in the rapid recovery, development and promotion of the economy were presented.

This year’s conference featured technical discussions on topics such as industrial policy issues, trade, investment and industrial policy reform, education, human capital development and industrialization, spatial dimensions of industrialization, animal husbandry and agricultural industries, energy policies, emerging industries, and international experiences in industrial development.
