The growth and stability in the energy sector are very important for economic development of a country said Energy Minister Engineer Kumara Jayakody whilst participating in an inspection tour of the Kolonnawa Oil Terminal on Wednesday (1).
He added that the government firmly believes that the ownership and direct control of the energy sector should be under the authority of the government. “However, it was reported that the former government tried to change the ownership of the energy sector by implementing various reforms. We stood against it, not only fought but also defeated that ideology since the ownership and direct control of the energy sector should be under the authority of the government,” he stressed.
However, the minister added that the government will implement several new proposals for the development of the energy sector.
“We have several proposals to streamline the energy sector. We have just started implementing them and we are also considering issues such as the job security of employees very highly. We expect you to support this government programme by protecting the institution and increasing efficiency,” he added.
Speaking of the Clean Sri Lanka National Programme implemented by the government he said that everyone needs to understand the broad objectives of the Clean Sri Lanka National Programme. “Among those broad objectives are working against theft, waste and corruption whilst being a responsible person with human qualities.”
Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Chairman D. J. A. S. De Rajakaruna, Managing Director Mayura Netthikumarage and many others participated in the event.
