Hazara Wijeratne and Hasini Ambalangoda managed to win the women’s doubles title at the Botswana International Badminton Championship, making it the first time that two Sri Lankan players won the doubles title at a World Badminton Federation tournament.
Hazara and Hasini managed to claim this historic victory by defeating South Africa’s Amy Ackerman and Deirdre Lorenz, who are ranked 72nd in the World Badminton Federation, 21-18 and 22-20 in the women’s doubles final.
This victory went down in history as the highest victory achieved by two Sri Lankan female players in an international badminton tournament.
Hazara Wijeratne and Hasini Ambalangodage joined this tournament after winning the silver medal in the women’s doubles tournament at the International Badminton Championship held in Zambia recently.
After the Botswana tournament, Hazara and Hasini are scheduled to participate in the South African International Badminton Championship, which will be held from the 28th of this month to the 1st of December.
