The Ministry of Health has launched a probe into the death of a pregnant woman, along with her unborn child, at the Mannar District General Hospital last night (19 Nov).Â
Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced the probe via a statement on ‘X’.
Meanwhile, the Mannar Police has also launched a probe into the death of the pregnant woman and her child.Â
The Police told Islandnews that a 27-year-old woman from Mannar had been admitted to the hospital for childbirth on Monday night.
She had gone into labour yesterday, during which the mother and child were pronounced dead.
The Police said the Magisterial Inquiry into the death is to be conducted after which the post-mortem examination will be conducted by the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) of the Jaffna Hospital. (Islandnews)
