A Land Rover suspected to be illegally assembled has been found at a garage in the Polgasowita area, it was reported.
According to the Lankadeepa newspaper, the vehicle had been found based on information received by officers of the Western Province Intelligence Unit.
Interrogation of the owner of the garage had revealed that the chief incumbent of a Buddhist Temple in Maharagama had handed over an old Land Rover, a Chassis, four tyres, and an engine a year and a half ago.
The garage owner further revealed that the monk had also brought the necessary car parts from time to time to assemble the vehicle.
The Police said they intend to record a statement in this regard from the chief incumbent of the Buddhist Temple in Maharagama.
The Kesbewa Police have taken custody of the Land Rover for further investigations. (Islandnews)
