India declares seven day mourning, state funeral for ex-PM Manmohan Singh

India lost its foremost thinker and architect of its new economy in former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh late night on Thursday.

Singh was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences where he breathed his last, surrounded by family members and devoted party colleagues, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi along with other senior leaders.

Senior BJP leaders also rushed to the hospital and condolences started pouring in from across the world. As a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the government has decided that seven days of state mourning will be observed throughout India from December 26, the day he passed away at AIIMS, until January 1.
