Industries Minister Sunil Handuneththi warned that the 15% tax on service exports could discourage businesses and impact the sector’s growth.
Speaking during a televised program, Handuneththi acknowledged the government’s integrated approach but noted that not all concerns could be addressed immediately.
“Even though I oppose it, I approach this as the Industries Minister. The Finance Ministry officials, however, see it as a necessary measure to generate tax revenue,” he said.
Noting of the contribution of digital entrepreneurs, Handuneththi stressed the need for further discussions on the issue. (Islandnews)
