Jannatul Maoua’s all-round effort helps Bangladesh level series


Bangladesh Women's U19 tour of Sri Lanka 2nd T20

Bangladesh Women’s U19 leveled the series with a 21-run win over Sri Lanka Women’s U19 in the fourth and final T20 played today (9th January) at the BRC Grounds, Colombo.

After being put in to bat, Bangladesh found themselves struggling at 59 for 5 in 9.2 overs, but useful contributions from the lower middle order helped them post 126 all out in 19.5 overs.

No. 7 batter Jannatul Maoua top-scored for the visitors with 24, while Afia Ashima and Mosammat Eva chipped in with 21 and 20, respectively. For Sri Lanka, Rashmika Sewwandi was the standout bowler, claiming 3 for 28, while Chamodi Prabodha also impressed with two wickets.

In reply, Sri Lanka struggled to build momentum, slipping to 74 for 8 in 15.5 overs. Skipper Manudi Nanayakkara got off to a start but was dismissed after scoring 25. No. 7 batter Hiruni Hansika fought valiantly for the home side, smashing an unbeaten 44 off 29 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes.

However, Sri Lanka fell short, managing only 105 runs at the end of their innings. Jannatul Maoua excelled with the ball as well, taking 3 for 23 in her 4 overs. The series ended in a 2-2 draw.
