The BAR Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) states the LAW ID carried by the suspect involved in the murder of underworld kingpin Ganemulla Sanjeewa inside a Colombo court complex, was fake.
Issuing a statement, BASL said the LAW ID seized by the Police following the shooting incident had been examined by its representatives.
Upon cross-checking with the Association’s data, it was found that the individual named in the LAW ID was not a member of the BASL, and the ID had been made using a fake registration number, Supreme Court number, and QR code.
BASL further clarified that the seized LAW ID was not one that had been issued by the BAR Association of Sri Lanka.
Stating that the BASL Secretary’s signature had been placed in a different location on the seized LAW ID, it said the ID has been created using fake details.
BASL added that the suspect was not a member of the BAR Association of Sri Lanka as claimed by the fake ID and the LAW ID in question was fake.
The clarification comes as a man disguised as a lawyer had shot dead underworld kingpin Ganemulla Sanjeewa when he took the witness stand at a courthouse in Colombo yesterday.
Two suspects, including the shooter, have been arrested thus far, while Police investigations are underway to apprehend a woman who had aided the shooting. (Islandnews)
