Chief Government Whip Nalinda Jayatissa announced today that investigations into Members of Parliament (MPs) who have acquired liquor licenses are underway and that the list of such MPs will be tabled in Parliament later this afternoon.
He made this statement in response to a query raised by MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam during a parliamentary session.
MP Rasamanickam questioned the delay in disclosing the names of MPs holding liquor permits, emphasizing that the public has a right to know.
“Why is the government withholding the list of MPs who have been granted bar permits? This information should be made public,” he asserted.
In reply, Chief Government Whip Jayatissa assured that the list would be presented in Parliament by the evening and confirmed that investigations into the matter had already commenced.
