Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath says the Local Government Elections will be held early next year.
Minister Herath made the statement when speaking to the media in Kandy today (23 Nov).
The minister said that based on the Supreme Court’s decision, necessary measures will be taken to conduct the election soon.
He further said that among the candidates nominated for the elections two years ago, some have passed away and some have left the country.
Minister Herath said that a discussion will be held with other political parties on whether or not to call for new nominations.
Stating that steps will be taken to hold the Local Government Elections early next year, he added that a final decision on the date of the election is yet to be decided. (Islandnews)
