The Low-Pressure Area in the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to move west-northwestwards and reach over the southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka – Tamil Nadu coasts around 11th December.
According to the Met Department, under its influence, showery conditions are expected to enhance in the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka from tomorrow (10 Dec).
The Northeast monsoon condition is also expected to establish gradually over the island along with the above condition.
As such, several spells of showers will occur in the Northern and Eastern provinces and Matale district today.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya and Kandy districts in the evening or night.
Fairly heavy showers of about 75mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle and Matara districts.
Misty conditions can be expected in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, Western and North-western provinces in the morning.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Islandnews)
