A man who allegedly stabbed his wife and hit her head with a rock surrendered to the Nawalapitiya Police early this morning (Feb. 4).
The victim, identified as 46-year-old mother of three from Semrock, Nawalapitiya, was employed at an apparel factory in Colombo. She had traveled to her daughter’s home in Nawalapitiya yesterday (Feb. 3) to attend a religious event.
According to Police investigations, the suspect entered the house secretly through a window at around 1:30 a.m. and stabbed his wife while she was asleep in a bedroom. The injured woman ran outside in an attempt to escape, but the suspect chased her down, stabbed her again, and struck her head with a rock.
The victim’s daughter, who tried to intervene, also sustained injuries. Police said that the murder was the result of a family dispute, revealing that the couple had been living separately for some time.
Following the magistrate’s inspection, the body is to be sent to the Nawalapitiya District General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. (Islandnews)
