Many farmers still to receive Rs. 25,000 fertiliser subsidy – Sajith

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has highlighted that the Rs.25,000 fertiliser subsidy promised to farmers has not been fully delivered. He mentioned that he raised this issue in the previous Parliamentary session and noted that only about 40% of the allocated funds have been utilised, leaving many farmers without the full subsidy.

Speaking at public rallies held in Galgamuwa and Giribawa, yesterday Premadasa emphasised the urgency of providing the fertiliser subsidy promptly, especially during the paddy planting season.

He criticised the Government for failing to fulfil its promises and pointed out the significant gap between their words and actions.

Premadasa also addressed the issue of electricity bills, stating that the Government has not provided the promised relief to the people. Despite the pre-election promise to reduce electricity bills by 33%, the Electricity Minister has proposed a 37% increase. The Public Utilities Commission, based on public opinions and suggestions, has recommended a 20% reduction in electricity bills. However, the Electricity Board claims that they need the Minister’s directive and the Finance Ministry’s recommendation to implement this reduction.
