Police investigations reveal that a 14-year-old girl in Gampaha was recently murdered by her father over a money dispute.
The body of the child was found in a toilet pit under construction at her residence, after a complaint was filed by the child’s mother reporting her missing.
The woman’s second husband was arrested on suspicion yesterday after which he had confessed to the murder.
Police investigations reveal that the woman had handed over money to her daughter to redeem jewellery that had been pawned.
The woman had left for work after handing over the money, after which her second husband, who is severely addicted to drugs, had attempted to take the money from the child.
During the dispute the man had attacked the child pushing her to the floor and had left the house with the money.
Upon his return, the suspect had found the child dead on the floor and had disposed of her body in the toilet pit under construction.
The child’s mother who had noticed her missing had inquired from the suspect about her whereabouts, to which the man had said she had gone on a holiday with friends.
However, Police investigations had uncovered the death, recovering the child’s body yesterday.
The suspect has been remanded until 16 December after being produced before the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court. (Islandnews)
