A couple of games in the U19 Division I Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (3rd January) for day one.
At Reid Avenue, St. Peter’s College batted first and posted 195 in their first innings against the formidable Royal College bowling attack. Savi Fernando scored a brilliant half-century, reigniting memories of his performance during last year’s visit to Reid Avenue. Enosh Peterson also continued his good form with a half-century. Ramiru Perera was the standout with the ball for Royal College with three important scalps. By the end of the day’s play, Royal College were 83 for the loss of two wickets. Rehan Peiris stood firm at one end, remaining unbeaten with 50 runs to his name.
The game at Darley Road was finely poised at the end of the day’s play. Navod Perera of St. Sebastian’s College scored a crucial century to keep the Sebastianites in the game despite wickets falling at the other end, with the help of Fernando’s century St. Sebastian’s College managed to post a total of 233 on the board, In reply, St. Joseph’s College were 97 for the loss of three wickets at the end of the day’s play, with Senuja Wakunugoda unbeaten on 60.
