A person was killed early today when a bus caught fire near a retirement hall adjacent to Jeethawanarama in the Udamaluwa Police Station area, authorities said.
Police said the bus had traveled from Embilipitiya to Anuradhapura with a religious group, whose members were staying at the retirement hall when the fire broke out.
A 55-year-old passenger from Embilipitiya was inside the bus when it caught fire and died at the scene, according to police.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. (Islandnews)
