The Philippines’ level of support for free speech increased in 2024 compared to 2021, according to the latest edition of The Future of Free Speech Index developed by The Future of Free Speechan independent, nonpartisan think tank based at Vanderbilt University. In a scale of 0-100 points, the country scored 68.6, inching up from 67.6 it logged in 2021. The index seeks to reaffirm freedom of expression as the foundation of free and thriving societies through actionable research, empowering tools, and principled advocacy. Key findings of the report highlighted important challenges and opportunities related to free speech in the 21st century.
