Police uncover fake driving license racket; three arrested

A major fake driving license racket was uncovered following a raid in the Manampitiya area on Friday (10).

Officers from the Polonnaruwa Division Criminal Investigation Division arrested three suspects allegedly involved in forging driving licenses and vehicle registration documents.

The first suspect, a 48-year-old resident of Manampitiya, was apprehended during a raid conducted based on a tip-off. He was found in possession of 19 forged driving licenses. Investigations revealed his involvement in producing counterfeit licenses and vehicle registration books.

Based on information gathered during the raid, police arrested two additional suspects in Colombo—one near the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) Werahera and the other near the Narahenpita DMT office.

The suspects, aged 39 and 60, include a driving school operator from Werahera and a document forger operating near the Narahenpita DMT office.

Officers seized three forged driving license cards, six mobile phones, a computer, and other documents linked to the operation during the arrests.

The suspects are currently in custody at the Manampitiya Police Station. Further investigations are being carried out by the Polonnaruwa Division Criminal Investigation Division and the Manampitiya Police. (NewsWire)
