President has deal to appoint Sumanthiran foreign minister” – Gammanpila

Former MP Udaya Gammanpila has alleged that the President and the Government have a “deal” with the Ilangai Thamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) to appoint former MP M. A. Sumanthiran as Foreign Minister in the next government following the general election.

In his statement, Gammanpila noted that while he respects Sumanthiran’s right to hold a ministerial position, he is concerned about two conditions reportedly agreed upon by the government.

“The first condition is that the government has agreed to implement a new constitution, making Sri Lanka a federal state,” he said, adding that this approach aligns with separatist interests in dividing the country’s people along ethnic lines.

He also claimed that, under a second condition, the President has agreed to accept the 2015 United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) resolution against Sri Lanka and initiate what he described as a “war hero hunt.”

“No government in history has acted this way to protect political allies within its first month. The people who voted for the NPP should be especially concerned about this behavior,” he added.

Gammanpila further announced plans to launch a public petition urging the government to remove the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, Ravi Seneviratne, who was implicated in a presidential inquiry report on the Easter attacks.
