A tense situation unfolded this afternoon (2nd December) in front of the Ministry of Education in Isurupaya, Battaramulla, as Development Officers staged a protest demanding permanent positions in the teaching service.
Police intervened to disperse the protesters, who had obstructed the Kottawa-Borella Road (174 bus route), causing significant traffic disruptions. The protest escalated, leading to clashes between the protesters and Police personnel.
According to reports, three police officers sustained injuries during the altercation. One officer has been transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. Meanwhile, three protesters were also reportedly taken into custody for obstructing traffic and causing unrest.
The situation has since been brought under control, with Police and relevant authorities continuing investigations. Traffic on the Kottawa-Borella Road has resumed.
