Former distinguished officer of the Sri Lankan Administrative Service, Ashoka Peiris has been appointed the new Chairman of the Lanka Mineral Sands Ltd, under the purview of the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development.
Ashoka Peiris has held high-ranking positions in the administrative service for 10 years, including as the Secretary of the Ministries of Water Supply, Indigenous Medicine and Lands.
He also served as an official of the Lanka Mineral Sands Ltd from 2015 to 2016. A graduate of Economics from the University of Peradeniya, he has also served as the President of the Sri Lanka Administrative Services Association.
Commenting on his appointment, Ashoka Peiris said he intends to operate the Lanka Mineral Sands Ltd, which is one of the most valuable public enterprises owned by the government, with full transparency and according to a proper system.
He further said that as the chairman, he hopes to make the institute one of the key means of earning Dollars for Sri Lanka by further expanding mining operations. (Islandnews)
