The wholesale price of a kilogram of Nadu rice has been set at Rs. 225, while the retail price is capped at Rs. 230.
Similarly, imported Nadu rice is available at a retail price of Rs. 220 per kilogram.

During a meeting held today (Dec. 7) at the Presidential Secretariat, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake instructed rice traders to adhere to these price limits and warned of strict legal action against violators. He emphasized the importance of protecting consumer rights and urged the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) to closely monitor daily rice price changes and calculate the volume of rice distributed from mills.
The President also encouraged traders to cooperate with the government to resolve rice-related issues amicably, highlighting the significant investments in the agriculture sector and subsidies provided to farmers. He reminded traders of the low-interest bank loans made available for paddy procurement and stressed the need to respect the people’s right to affordable rice.
Key officials present included Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Vasantha Samarasinghe, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumaranayake, and representatives from relevant ministries and institutions.
