Sathosa begins selling imported rice stocks


Lanka Sathosa has begun distributing imported rice stocks through its outlets from yesterday.

Lanka Sathosa Chairman Dr.Samitha Perera said 1,500 metric tonnes of rice was purchased for this purpose.

In addition to this, he stated that locally produced rice continues to be distributed through Lanka Sathosa sales outlets at controlled prices without any shortage.

The government has decided to extend the deadline for rice imports till January 10, 2025.This decision was made during a discussion held last night at the Trade Ministry.

The previously granted time period for rice imports was scheduled to end yesterday.

According to Sri Lanka Customs sources, 35,600 metric tonnes of rice stocks ordered by private importers have now arrived in the country.
