Shreyas Iyer has got the captaincy of the Punjab Kings team in the upcoming IPL tournament.
Iyer, who joined the Punjab Kings for the second-highest price in history in the IPL player auction held last year, was most likely to be their captain.
Iyer, who joined the Indian reality show The Big Boss last Sunday (12), confirmed that those speculations are true.
Iyer, who is now 30 years old, managed to add his name to the eight captains who have won the championship in the history of the IPL last year by taking the Kolkata Knight Riders team to the championship.
Iyer, who is considered to be a player who has high hopes for leadership in Indian cricket, is the third team in his IPL history to play for the Punjab Kings team.
He crossed special milestones playing and captaining the Delhi Capitals team, and also joined Delhi to the 2020 IPL runner-up title.
Meanwhile, he managed to show outstanding performance with the bat by leading the Mumbai team in this Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament.
And this time, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is the head coach of the Punjab Kings team, and previously he was the coach of the Delhi Capitals team along with Iyer. That relationship was a very successful one, and it appears that both of them are hoping for a similar harmony this time as well.
