The SLAF Women’s Judo Team clinched the overall championship at the 61st National Judo Championship 2024, marking a historic win after a decade. The championship was held from 13 to 14 December 2024 at the Sri Lanka Judo Association in Colombo 13, with the awards ceremony taking place at the same venue 15th December 2024
The event witnessed the presence of the Chairman of SLAF Judo, Air Vice Marshal Damian Weerasinghe, the Secretary of SLAF Judo, Group Captain MADCI Gunasinghe, the Assistant Secretarys of SLAF Judo, Wing Commander HDTNS Hettiarachchi and other senior officers from the tri-services, who graced the awards ceremony.
The SLAF Women’s Judo Team emerged victorious, securing the Championship title, with an outstanding haul of six gold, three silver and nine bronze medals. Meanwhile, the SLAF Men’s Judo Team delivered a commendable performance, achieving the Overall Runner-up position with an impressive tally of four gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
Adding to the team’s success, Sergeant Chamara Dharmawardana was named the ‘Best Male Judo Player’ for the 8th consecutive year, while Aircraftwoman Kalpani Jayaweera earned the title of ‘Best Female Judo Player’.
