Speaker of the House, Ashoka Ranwala says he intends to hold a discussion with newly elected Jaffna District MP Dr. Archuna Ramanathan regarding his recent actions in Parliament.
MP Archuna Ramanathan made headlines after he sat in the seat traditionally allocated for the Leader of the Opposition during the inaugural session of the 10th Parliament and also allegedly issued racial statements.
Accordingly, the Speaker said he would take up this matter with the MP and take further action.
Speaker Ashoka Ranwala made the remarks while speaking to the media during his visit to Kandy last afternoon (24 Nov).
“We do not know what his ambition is as an individual. The ambition of the people he represents is very clear. The people do not expect such a thing in the country today. Those people may be from the North, West or East, but all they hope is to unite to develop the country in harmony,” he said.
Stating that this is the action of a single person, Speaker Ranwala said they will speak with the MP, inspect all his Facebook accounts and, thereafter, initiate a probe.
“We can also talk to him, but let’s act intelligently and clarify this in the future,” he added. (Islandnews)
