The Police have announced the commencement of a nationwide special traffic initiative starting tomorrow (23), targeting passenger buses and other vehicles.
This initiative aims to reduce the rising number of road accidents involving passenger buses and other automobiles. Acting under the guidance of the Acting Inspector General of Police, the operation will extend until the conclusion of the festive period.
The primary objective during this campaign will be the thorough inspection of public passenger buses. Authorities will specifically ensure that drivers are not operating under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.
In addition, strict action will be taken against buses driven recklessly, at excessive speeds, in violation of traffic laws, or those operating with defective tires or mechanical faults.
The operation will also cover other vehicle categories. Traffic officers will be deployed across the country to conduct round-the-clock monitoring throughout the initiative.
The public is encouraged to report incidents of unsafe or irresponsible driving, including violations involving buses or other vehicles, through the hotlines 119 and 1997. Reports can also be made to local police stations or via the mobile numbers of designated traffic officers in the respective areas.
Moreover, any video footage of traffic violations or other related offenses can be shared via WhatsApp to the provided contact numbers. The Police Media Division has assured that appropriate legal measures will be taken based on the information provided.
