Sri Lanka Army Assists in Cleaning Paddy Warehouses for Maha Season Harvest

In line with the ongoing ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national programme, implemented under the guidance of His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Hon. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, a government initiative is set to be launched to purchase the paddy harvest of the Maha season.

Following the purchase, the government plans to store the paddy stocks in warehouses belonging to the Paddy Marketing Board. However, as these warehouses and their surrounding lands have remained unused for an extended period, they require cleaning and restoration to ensure their suitability for use.

In response to this national requirement and under the directions of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and the guidance of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, the Army provided its assistance to clean and restore these facilities. These activities were conducted on 19 and 20 January 2025 under the supervision of Security Forces Headquarters across the island.

Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Army completed the cleaning and restoration of three paddy warehouse complexes under Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna, ten warehouses under Security Force Headquarters – Wanni, three complexes under Security Force Headquarters – East, five warehouses under Security Force Headquarters – West, and nine warehouse complexes under Security Force Headquarters – Central.
