The 53rd John Tarbert Junior Athletics Championship started today (18) at the Kotwila Sports Complex.
It is special that three new match records were broken on the first day of the tournament.
Here, M Rajasinghe of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo managed to renew the competition record in the under-15 men’s javelin throwing event by throwing the javelin a distance of 56.07 meters.
Meanwhile, D.Rajapaksa of Wattala Lyceum Vidyalaya, who represented the under-15 women’s long jump event, managed to reach a new competition record by crossing a distance of 6.04 meters. Also, DD Karunaratne of Vishaka Vidyalaya, Colombo, who represented the under-15 women’s javelin throwing event, managed to set a new competition record by throwing the javelin with a distance of 12.59 meters.
