Sri Lanka decided to bowl first after winning a crucial toss in the second ODI against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

The match was scheduled to start at 6:30 AM Sri Lanka Time, but rain delayed the start. After a two-hour interruption, the toss took place at 8:30 AM.
The visitors made one change to their lineup, bringing in right-arm off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana to replace Lahiru Kumara.
For New Zealand, experienced keeper-batter Tom Latham returned to the side after missing the series opener due to a niggle, while Mitch Hay was left out.
The match will now be a 37-over-per-side contest, with the three powerplays revised to span overs 1–8, 9–30, and 31–37. Two bowlers are allowed to bowl a maximum of 8 overs each, while three bowlers can bowl a maximum of 7 overs each.
