Ireland is stunned by 12 runs by Canada in the Twenty20 World Cup.

In the Twenty20 World Cup, Canada stuns Ireland with 12 runs.

New York: Canada upset Ireland by twelve runs in a Group A match in New York on Friday, their first victory at a Twenty20 World Cup.

With a target of only 138, the non-Test country fielded and bowled brilliantly to restrict Ireland to 125-7 from their 20 overs.

Ireland fell apart horribly to 59-6, and in the final five overs, they still required 64 runs to win, or more than 12 runs every over.

Mark Adair (34) and George Dockrell (30 not out) lowered the goal to 17 off the final six balls.

However, Adair was dismissed by Canada paceman Jeremy Gordon with the second delivery of the 20th over as he held a skyed caught & bowled opportunity. Gordon only gave away three runs.

The 37-year-old Guyana-born Gordon concluded with a respectable 2-16 from his full four overs.

After losing the toss, Canada fought to 53-4 before a crucial stand of 75 in 10 overs between left-hander Nicholas Kirton (49) and Shreyas Movva (37) pushed them to a final score of 137-7.

Canada recovered from an early loss to the USA with victory.

But after losing by eight wickets to India, this was Ireland’s second straight defeat.
