Two children were reported dead in separate tragic accidents reported in the Ulukkulama and Mawanella areas yesterday.
A 16-year-old boy who had fallen off a tree in the Ambulugala area in Mawanella last morning had succumbed to injuries after receiving treatment at the Mawanella Hospital.Â
Police investigations reveal that the boy along with a friend had been contracted to collect areca nuts for a payment during which he had fallen due to the tree falling down. The Mawanella Police is conducting investigations into the incident.Â
Meanwhile, a 07-year-old child was reported dead after being knocked down by a bus in the Unit 02 area in Ulukkulama in the North Central Province last afternoon.
The child who was on a bicycle had been knocked down by a bus plying from Vavuniya to the unit seven area after which the child had been run over by the back tyre of the bus.Â
The child who had sustained serious injuries in the incident had died after being admitted to the Pawakkulama Hospital.
The child is a resident of the Pawakkulama area. The Ulukkulama Police is conducting investigations. (Islandnews)
