Two persons were reported dead in murders reported in separate areas in the last 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today.
The Police said a 45-year-old man was reported dead after being attacked with a sharp object inside a store in Ja-Ela yesterday.
The Police said the victim, an employee at the store, had consumed alcohol with a fellow employee inside the store. During this time an argument had escalated, after which the other employee had attacked the victim with a sharp object.
The victim, who had been admitted to the Ragama Hospital with serious injuries, had succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment. The Ja-Ela Police have launched a probe to arrest the suspect who had fled the area following the attack.
Meanwhile, a 44-year-old woman succumbed to injuries after being attacked with a sharp object in the Laggala area yesterday.
The Police said the woman had been attacked by her husband over a family dispute.
The suspect has been arrested, while the Laggala Police is conducting investigations into the incident. (Islandnews)
