Former Member of Parliament (MP) Wimal Weerawansa arrived at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday (3) to file a complaint for further investigation regarding a statement he had made previously about Basil Rajapaksa.
Weerawansa arrived at the CID and filed a complaint about an irregularity that occurred during the tenure of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa as the Finance Minister.
Former MP Udaya Gammanpila was also present at the CID representing himself as a lawyer and Wimal Weerawansa expressed his views to the media regarding Basil Rajapaksa outside the CID.
Weerawansa said that all written information related to the statement he made earlier regarding Basil Rajapaksa was handed over to the officers of the CID and that information regarding Basil Rajapaksa’s American properties is contained in those documents that were handed over by him to the CID. Former MP Weerawansa also said that the information he provided only mentioned a limited part of Basil Rajapaksa’s assets and that the government could obtain the necessary information regarding the remaining properties from the United States very soon.
Wimal Weerawansa further said that if the government intends to investigate the real thieves instead of falsely arresting those who have committed minor offences, then he would like to tell the government to investigate Basil Rajapaksa’s properties.
