The awards ceremony for the winners of the Sri Lanka Army Inter-Regiment Sports Competition and the distribution of financial rewards to athletes who achieved international victories were held yesterday (03) at the Army Multipurpose Complex, Grand Maitland. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The Sri Lanka Army, committed to promote sports excellence in the country, organised the competition to identify and nurture talented new athletes in regiments. Throughout 2024, Army athletes participated in 29 different sports disciplines, showcasing exceptional skills. Under the guidance of the Commander of the Army, the Directorate of Army Sports conducted this event to recognise and motivate these outstanding athletes.
During the ceremony, athletes who brought honour to the nation through international achievements over the past year, as well as those who demonstrated exceptional abilities in representing the country at the Olympics and Paralympics, were acknowledged. The Commander of the Army presented financial rewards to these athletes as a token of appreciation.
Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks participated in the event.
